To Protect Our Kids It Should Be A No-Brainer |
Enough Is Enough. Megan’s Law is a good law, which requires public notification when dangerous sex offenders are released from prison back into the community. The law was passed by congress in 1994 after little Megan Kanka, a precious little seven year old girl was brutally raped and murdered by a repeated sex offender.
However, Megan’s Law does not go far enough. If a registered sex offender moves whether it’s across town or out of state, it is up to the offender to register the new address with the national registry, which makes the law ineffective.
It’s not enough to know who these people are in the community, or if a registered sex offender is living next door. Not knowing when they might strike again is the problem and most all sex offenders are repeated offenders.
The man accused of killing little Jessica Lunsford in Florida, who took her in the middle of the night from her bed, was a repeat offender with 24 sexual offences on his record and lived just right across the street from his intended victim. Why was this man ever released back into the community is the troubling question, which leaves a huge black mark against our judicial system?
It is time to change the laws regarding sexual predators who are preying on our children.
No strikes, one offence and you’re out with no parole. Sex offenders against children should be made to serve the full length of their sentence.
A minimum of 25 years to life is a good place to start. After serving the 25 years, the registered sex offender should not be granted a general release back into the community but only as a parole with the terms that parole can be revoked to serve out a full life sentence if parole is violated.
It has been shown that sex offenders cannot be cured and are most likely to re-offend. If a sex offender is released back into the community after serving his/her full sentence, as part of the release agreement the paroled sex offender should be made to accept an implanted tracking device that lets the authorities who monitor his/her whereabouts know where he/she is at all times. We have the technology to do so.
It is a national tragedy when a child is abducted, sexually molested and then murdered.
It affects us all to hear each week that another child has been taken from their home and later their little body found in a ditch or shallow grave. How many children do we need to lose before something is done to stop sexual predators from abusing and killing our children?
My heart wrenches every time I hear another news report that a child is missing. Help us to make changes in our laws by getting involved and writing your congressman to let them know we are not going to take it any more. We should not have to live in fear that some predator may come in the middle of the night and take our children from the safety of their bed to be used and murdered. Our children are the most precious possessions we have, lets fight to keep them safe.

Bulletin: Kids Safety Smart is joining forces with Joe Brucia and Code Amber to lobby congress to pass proposed legislation to bring sweeping changes in our probation and parole procedures. Carlie's law would make sure career criminals stay behind bars where they belong.
